From Jim's chair

Ah, doesn't it feel nice to be able to look forwards again and have the expectation of good football returning to Spurs. Just before we get there, though, we have what is set to be an almighty squad shift this summer. I put together an overview of our current 25 man squad. The priorities are clear. We need cover at left wing-back (good news that appears done with Andy Robertson). Next up we crucially need a left wing and backup left centre-back to address the squad balance. Once we have those fundamentals in place much of the focus will shift to outgoings to fund an improvement on our centre forwards.

Otherwise, the season is over so now we can look forward to other fun football things that wasn’t the disaster of this season. Haha!

LAST GAME

Spurs Clinch Premier League Safety!

WE HAVE DONE IT!

Of course Spurs would leave it to the final day, with us fans biting our nails in anxiety as we knew that Everton were still looking to qualify for European football. Though, that knowledge didn’t stop any of the Tottenham faithful from showing up when it mattered most. Whether you were there to greet the players on a hot Sunday hours before the match, or went to the game wearing white to create a sea of unmistakable lilywhite, or if you were watching at home, eyes bleary because it’s 3am… you did your part. Truly, the best fans in the league.

And yes, we can talk about the match and how Everton looked a bit glum and lacking energy, and how we were pressing and creating opportunities; how electric Tel was on the wing and with Palhinha being the passion-merchant that he is (never fall in love with a loan player, am I right…); yes. We won the game. It was incredible. But the ones who have stuck with Tottenham throughout this terrible campaign have been you. So you deserve the biggest round of applause. We have been bantered for finishing 17th, for being in the Champions League even though, honestly, it didn’t make sense. We watched as our biggest rivals won the league for the first time in 22 years (with a helping hand from PGMOL). But nothing has swayed us. And I just want to give all of you a big clap on the back for sticking with the team.

We went through a lot. We started the season saying goodbye to one of our own, Sonny, and then transitioned to Thomas Frank trying to dismantle us from the inside. Then an odd Igor Tudor stunt, and a questionable De Zerbi hiring (which turned out to be successful). We saw our squad decimated with injuries for the third season in a row, got snubbed by the refs every single game (in what world is Assnal winning the league without a single red card or penalty conceded while we had the joint most red cards) and watched as our non-executive chairman Peter Charrington and new ex-Assnal CEO Vinai Vinkatesham + Johan Lange ruin everything for our team.

And yet, we survived. We stayed up, retaining our Premier League status. And it’s time for a proper rebuild yet again. We tried it with Ange Postecoglou. It was working, until it wasn’t. And we started again with Frank. And then Tudor, and now De Zerbi. We have tried this rebuild gimmick every single year and it’s been long, and hard and now we have to do it again. But I’ve got a decent feeling about this one here. I think De Zerbi could get us back to where we belong, in the top half of the table and pursuing some sort of European football. It all just falls down to the recruitment team and the ones higher up…

At least we can close the door to the 25/26 season and release the breath we’ve been holding in. Now, it’s time to watch the World Cup and cheer on our national teams. Hopefully we don’t melt in the sun!
