From Jim's chair

Just 5 days to go until our first preseason match! I can’t wait, our new midfield will be in action for the first time. It sounds like our pursuit of Savinho is stepping up too.

The big talking point this week though has been what to do with Djed Spence. He's such a wonderful success story at Spurs and a likeable guy. He was brilliant to watch for England, so it just feels crazy that we're considering selling him. However, when I went under the hood and tried to drop the emotions, it was clear he's not the profile of player our manager would typically use. It sounds like there's an opportunity to get in Neco Williams, who is more of a Pedro Porro type two-sided – homegrown! – wingback. However, although it may make sense in some regards, I just can't drop my sentiment for Djed Spence. I want him to stay! Am I going crazy?

The other thing is that we're struggling to adjust to the concept of selling some good players. Bergvall, Spence and Vuskovic. We all want the other names gone first. However, we have to be honest with ourselves. The reason those players are worth money is because they're good, and the reason the other ones are still here is because they're not deemed as good and they're hard to sell! So sometimes you've got to make tough decisions…

I dream of a world where we end up keeping Bergvall and Spence but let’s see. If they go and Spurs spend the money on players who make us better, then it will soon be forgotten.

Spurs are back! Sorta…

Hello everyone! Yes, it’s true – Tottenham Hotspur have started preseason.

HAHA. Not what you were expecting, was it? I don’t know, I’m trying to be funny here. Is it coming across as funny?

In all seriousness, Spurs have started preseason, which you can watch here. It’s fun to see the players again, and I gotta say, I like the dark blue training kits. There were some surprises to see, like Manor Solomon, Kota Takai, and Yang Min-hyeok, but otherwise the core group of players besides those still at the World Cup (or recovering from it) looked they had a nice and restful summer break. De Zerbi had those players running though… absolutely not (I hate fitness tests). It was also nice to see new players integrating – Tonali was speaking with Udogie and Fernandes looked like he was getting along with Archie Gray. We also some academy players training, with the likes of Luca Williams-Barnett and Callum Olusesi from the U21s, as well as Dane Scarlett and Mikey Moore, who are back from their loans.

We have also confirmed our preseason schedule (shown below). You can watch these games live on SPURSPLAY (and if you’ve renewed your membership after the train wreck of last season you actually get this for free!).

Other news is Newcastle bid £46m for Lucas Bergvall but found this rejected. Did they think selling an overpriced Tonali was going to get them in good graces with Bergvall? Absolutely not. Haha.

The World Cup is coming to an end this Sunday. Who do you think is going to win? It’s fantastic that Spurs will become one of the first clubs in Premier League history to have three players win a World Cup in a row. Will it be Cristian Romero and Marcos Senesi with Argentina to go back to back, the first time a country has done so since Brazil in 1958 and 1962? Or will Pedro Porro and Spain go on to claim a second star on their jersey? We shall see…

Predicting the Final…

Editors Pick:
Well gosh, what other games can we really think about when the final is upon us? Let’s pretend the semis didn’t exist: I am hoping for an Argentina win.

JJ’s Pick

There’s only one game to look forward to this week and it’s the World Cup Final!! See below as two Spurs defenders face off for the ultimate prize.

(^Editor’s Note: JJ misunderstood my question so he’s just excited to see the game. Me too tbh. Haha!)
