From Jim's chair
Morning.
I told you. I told you this manager gets it.
Stamford Bridge. Three points. And I know what some of you are going to say, it was a weaker Chelsea side, they were missing a couple of players. We were missing eleven. We went to a ground where in forty years we've won about as many times as I've got fingers on one hand, against a manager who won the Bundesliga against Bayern Munich, and we beat them. Don't let anyone take that away from this team. The thing that got me most wasn't any one player. It was the mentality. For ten years, even under Poch, the Spurs I've watched in those games were the side that made the big tackle and got the red card.
The side that made the mistake and went home with nothing. On Saturday we were the side that wound Chelsea up. We were the side that took our chances. We were the side that went for the full ninety and didn't fade, which I don't think I've seen from us in years. Normally I'm sat in a WhatsApp group with my mates going right, here it comes, last twenty minutes, we're about to concede. Not anymore.
Fernandes and Tonali in that pivot is the future of this midfield. Most touches, most successful passes, most passes into the final third, Fernandes was everything we've been begging for. And Tel, take a bow son. The stick that lad has taken, and his head has never once dropped.
I know it's one game. I know we've all been burnt before. But I've had a feeling about this group since De Zerbi came in, and Saturday was the first time I think everyone else got to feel it too.
The fitness, the fight, the fact they wanted it more. That's the bit I'll take.
Enjoy it. Chest out. Rub it in.
Keep it Lilywhite #OhSo33,
– Jim
